Following its goal to become a one stop shop for travel agents, iYatri, an airfare
consolidator, has upgraded and revamped its hotel offering, to create a comprehensive
hotel product.
The new hotel component is "substantial," said Arnold Walter, president and CEO
of iYatri. "We have over 100,000 negotiated rates… that’s domestic and international."
Walter estimated that the hotel content includes properties in 200 to 250 countries,
and represents all hotel brands.
"Travel agents need to know that these are some of the best rates that we’re offering,"

As an air consolidator, iYatri, which has been in business since 1994, provides

Many of these fares, especially the international fares, are negotiated and deeply

to book on your agency site and generate bookings-and commissions-for you. The $350

see information on sales, commissions, refunds and booking activity, whether business
was conducted on the website or over the phone.
iYatri, which integrates with TRAMS, has also introduced ACH (Automated clearing
house) payments, which enable the direct deposit of commissions. "It goes straight
into bank accounts, so[agents are] getting their money faster," says Walter.

This consolidator allows you to earn money and merchandise for booking air

Booking air remains a fact of life for many travel agents. That?s why 12-year-old
consolidator iYatri now provides a website,
Farebuzz.com, that lets agents book low-cost airfares-negotiated,
published, international, domestic, first class, business class, and economy- and
automatically build in their own commissions or service fees. Ultimately, iYatri
plans to be one-stop travel shop that offers air fares, car rentals, and hotel bookings.
iYatri launched its site last summer, and within two months had 5,000 travel
agent members. Membership is free, which helps iYatri build the volume that allows
it to negotiate discounted fares and gives agents a fast way to make booking airfares
more profitable.
In addition to offering consolidator fares, iYatri provides published fares through
Sabre, meaning that agents can book air even if they don?t have a relationship with
a GDS. ?This is now one of the most robust engines out there, especially for consolidator
fares,? says Arnold Water, iYatri?s CEO.
For $350, travel agents also can link the iYatri site to their own sites, enabling
consumers to book on the agency site and generate bookings as well as commissions.
Since iYatri?s original specialty was providing discounted business (and first-class)
fares to corporate travelers-which it still does-it is experienced at providing
customer support with a round-the-clock support desk. It also has a group desk.
Travel agents simply log in and search for air fares. They can make the search as
broad or narrow as they choose, seeing as many choices as possible or narrowing
it down according to time, airline, or other criteria. They simply build in their
commission, knowing what keeps the fare they?re finding competitive.
Agents also can add insurance, which iYatri can do through a partnership it has
with the Berkely Group. In Addition, the company offers car rental and hotel bookings.
It gets hotel content from Sabre, and finds car content through Sabre as well as
direct relationships with the car rental companies.
Walter was surprise that the number of agents already booking cars and hotels on
the site, and the company plans to beef up that content. Agents, however, cannot
build in markups on car rentals and hotel bookings. iYatri typically splits those
commissions 50-50 at the beginning, but will shift to as much as a 70-30 split with
the agents with which it has established relationships.
The system automatically pre-populates booking fields with agency information. To
use the site?s online management tools, agents enter their user name and password
to see their sales, commissions, refunds, and booking activities. The company also
integrates with TRAMS.
iYatri had traditionally worked with corporate agencies whose customers are more
likely to purchase the first-and business-class fares that the company specializes
in. The company?s new website, however, is becoming popular with leisure travel
agents, according to Walter.
While the website does not specifically target home-based travel agents, it works
well for them. The wide range of fares it provides and iYatri?s customer support
desk can help home-based agents distinguish themselves from the mega-online sites,
according to Walter. iYatri sends out commission checks weekly, and does not
wait until travel is completed.
Ignacio Alleyne, owner of A & C Partnership Travel Services, a home-based travel
agency in Washington with six employees, has found that using iYatri has increased
his agency?s commissions on airline tickets from a paltry few dollars to $10 or
$15, depending on how low the original fare is and how it compares with other fares
that are available in the market. Alleyne also appreciates the management tools
that iYatri offers agencies, because they help both him and his agents to keep

has launched the online farebuzz.com booking engine and management tool and is aiming
to expand its partnerships with travel agents, according to Arnold Walter, CEO.
iYatri.com offers travel agents consolidator fares, high commissions on published
fares, hotels and car rentals. Also offered are live support for agents 24/7 and
online reporting, said the CEO.
Business/first class airfares, now available by E0mail and phone, will be online
soon, he added.
August Launch
Walter noted that since his company launched iYatri.com in August, 5,000 agents,
including those who are members of two consortium partners, have joined-there is
no cost to sing up.
iYatri is on pace to do $20 million to $30 million in sales, he added-a volume
that Walter aims to triple as his company ratchets up its outreach to agents.
iYatri provides links to agents so that they can put a private label version
of the consolidator‘s booking engine on their agency‘s Web sites, noted Walter.
"Why lose that business to other travel sites?"
The CEO stressed that iYatri is strictly business-to-business and does not take
